Uke of Spaces Corners County

Dan Beckman is a genius. He is one of the greatest songwriters in America today, just flat-out brilliant. It's sometimes called "gutter folk", I guess, or that just might be a term he made up, I can't remember if I actually read that or dreamed it or whatever, but in today's world when an acoustic guitar is normally associated with screaming and the concept of "anarchy", Dan, with the help of Amy Moon O.S. and others, is an overwhelming breath of fresh air. This music makes you want to plant vegetables and walk around pushing a wheelbarrow.
The last time I saw Dan, he was wearing great, tall boots and cut-offs so short that the pockets hung out the legs. Driving in yer truck, dogs runnin' out in front of you, I'm always amazed what just asking can get you. What I mean is, I'm incredibly proud to put out something by Uke of Spaces Corners County. It's gonna be a great summer.

Dude, about this dude, well...I've actually never met this dude. He recognizes me though, he saw SWJ play in Amherst, and he looks like an upright fella, don't he? His name is Matt Mondanile, aka ducktails and I've signed him up to do a Faux-Pas release. I even have the artwork planned out already. This was a weird impulse, I just thought about him, his music, and how good it was for days and days, and that's how I've based these kinds of decisions lately. Anyways, the music is just as his myspace describes (which most never actually do), tropical and psychedelic. It's like listening to summertime, like going on vacation, relaxing in a hammock, dancing by yourself in your backyard, meditating at the beach...I could go on. Like I say about 99% of things that I write about on the internet, I'm psyched.

Faux-Pas webstore is open today.

Flawless Victory

The book is done, made, and ready to collect dust in an amazon warehouse. This picture came to me through e-mail, I have yet to hold a physical copy myself. It looks good though, right?

first outside recording!

John Thill: "The Sluts" 3" CD-R FAX 005
Faux-Pas Recordings

This is a reissue of John's EP, formerly released by JK Tapes. This is the first album I've put out that I'm not on, and I'll admit, I'm pretty proud of it. John is an incredible songwriter, and this EP is at once beautiful, haunting, and any number of other adjectives really, this was a real pleasure to release. The last time I saw John, he put a bunch of broken glass in his mouth and swirled it around with an electric toothbrush. True story. Cover image is a wonderful painting by Seda Puda, and the whole thing comes in a fuzzy, leopard-print pocket.

Russian Tsarlag

I just talked to Carlos on the phone today, he says he's totally on board for a Faux-Pas release. He's recording new songs this weekend and should have something for me in April. I don't know what to say about his music, it's at once surreal, entrancing, and disturbing. Maybe the allure is in never fully understanding it, but always wanting to. It's great all the same and I'm excited to be a part of it.
